HHW's IMHO: How "Customer's always right" brought down a company

Well, actually that's just part of the reason. haha. Had a bad news the other day. One of the company I used to work for is going to cut alot of people because of some lost account. I didn't work there for a long time. Just a couple of years. But I see so much changes from the day I joined to the day I leave. It started from being professional to being "do what the client told". It's not really like that when I begin, we would usually fight with client about some changes and we back it up w/ reason. We win some, we lost some. But I feel at least that's what being professional means.

But then, "Do as the client said cos they are always right!". After that, what client wants client gets. Things become weird, styles not being follow, the wrong photos used, the wrong text, wrong spelling, everything that can become ammatureish, becomes exactly that. And when things comes up, I wonder how many time the client is gonna said "Yes, it screw up because of me.". It's more likely be "But you guys can always correct me wrong if I make a mistake. That's why I hired you guys.".

Guess customer might not always be right. And actually that's why the company is hired for the job. To make the product professional and correct for the market. No man is an island <-- Love this phase that seems to be lost in today's world. Everyone thinks they are the best. I try to be more humble and soak up everything from people around me, especially their failure. Like they said, you can only fail so many times.

And of course, there are other reasons but I feel that this 'delication' to client's satifaction in a way hinder the relationship, and brought down the company.
